Body found near Boulder Canyon Drive identified as Megan Trussel

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the deceased female found near Boulder Canyon Drive on Saturday is indeed 18-year-old Megan Trussell.

Trussell was reported missing to the CU-Boulder Police Department last Wednesday, Feb. 12.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office took over the case on Saturday afternoon, after Megan’s body was found in unincorporated Boulder County.

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy yesterday in order to identify the body, which sheriffs later confirmed via press release is Trussell.

Through that same press release, officials told the public they “do not believe that there is, or was, a threat to the community.”

The coroner’s office is still conducting additional testing, and are working to determine the final cause and manner of death.

Sheriffs will continue to investigate the case, and are still interested in hearing from anyone who may know what Megan was doing on Feb. 9 – the last day she was seen alive. Tips can be submitted to BCSO BCSOtips@bouldercounty.gov.

Edge of Lowry apartments in Aurora officially condemned

An Aurora apartment complex targeted by President Donald Trump officially closed on Tuesday.

All residents that formerly called The Edge of Lowry home have been evicted. Tenants of the 60-unit complex were told to vacate by 8 a.m. yesterday, or else face possible arrest for trespassing.

Housekeys Action Network Denver (HAND), churches, and volunteers helped to successfully move all the tenants out in time. But, according to HAND organizers, some of those tenants are now living in temporary housing or doubling up with other families.

The Edge of Lowry apartments initially came into the national spotlight when President-elect Donald Trump targeted the complex on his campaign trail. He falsely alleged that Venezuelan gangs, including Tren de Aragua, were taking over the city – and the complex.

Last month, an Aurora judge ordered the complex to close, calling it an “immediate threat to public safety.”

The Edge at Lowry had a history of mismanagement, with repeated code violations by CBZ Management. Tenants expressed frustration that the media’s focus on gangs had overshadowed the urgent issue of their poor living conditions.

Federal law enforcement agencies, including ICE, raided the complex at the beginning of the month, as part of their large-scale immigration raid across Denver and Aurora.

According to The Denver Post, residents took care of each other. They took turns dealing with maintenance of the building, and protected each other when ICE agents knocked on their doors.

Bill banning semi automatic gun purchase has passed the Senate

A bill that would change requirements for semiautomatic gun purchases has cleared yet another hurdle.

Senate Bill 25-003 passed the Colorado State Senate yesterday in a 19-15 vote. The bill seeks to prohibit the sale and manufacturing of different types of semiautomatic guns with detachable magazines.

Lawmakers have added fifteen amendments to the bill since its first committee hearing three weeks ago. The most dramatic change happened over the weekend.

Initially, the bill banned the sale of some semiautomatic guns, with no exceptions. Now, those guns can be purchased, so long as buyers complete specific training courses and pass a background check through their local sheriff.

The changes were sought by Governor Jared Polis and a group of moderate Democrats who planned to oppose the bill unless amendments were made. That’s according to The Denver Post.

The “Semiautomatic Firearms and Rapid Fire Devices” bill will now head to the House.
